Cookie Policy

Use of Tracking Technologies

This document explains the technologies used on this website that support the purposes described throughout the Cookie Policy. These technologies allow the website owner to access or store information on a user's device. This may include placing a cookie or running a script as the user interacts with the website.

For simplicity, all such technologies are referred to as Trackers in this document, unless a distinction is necessary.

For example, cookies can be used on both web and mobile browsers, but they are browser-based tools. It would be inaccurate to refer to cookies in the context of mobile applications. For that reason, the term cookies is used only when it specifically refers to that type of Tracker.

Some uses of Trackers may require the user's consent. When consent is required and given, it can be withdrawn at any time by following the instructions provided in this document.

This website uses both:

  • First-party Trackers, which are managed directly by the website owner
  • Third-party Trackers, which are provided by external services and may be accessible to those third parties

Unless otherwise noted, third-party providers may access and manage the Trackers they place.

The duration and expiration of cookies and similar Trackers vary depending on the settings defined by the website owner or the third-party provider. Some Trackers expire when the browsing session ends.

In addition to the information provided in each section below, users may find more detailed and updated information about Tracker duration, functionality, and related practices by reviewing the linked privacy policies of third-party providers or by contacting the website owner.

How this Website uses Trackers

Frontline Justice uses tracking technologies (“Trackers”) to support website operations, enhance functionality, understand user behavior, and deliver relevant communications. These Trackers may include cookies, scripts, pixels, or similar technologies that store or access data on your browser or device.

Trackers are grouped into four categories: Necessary, Functionality, Measurement, and Marketing. Some Trackers are required to ensure the website works correctly, while others are used with your consent to improve your experience or support outreach efforts.

We use both first-party Trackers, which are managed directly by Frontline Justice, and third-party Trackers provided by trusted vendors. Details for each category are provided below.

Necessary

Necessary Trackers are required to operate the Frontline Justice website and deliver core services. These tools help manage page loads, navigation, script execution, and overall stability. They do not collect personal data for advertising or analytics purposes.

These Trackers are always active and cannot be turned off through user preferences because they are essential to the website’s functioning.

Examples of Necessary Trackers include:

  • Google Tag Manager, which allows us to manage and load website scripts efficiently
  • Webflow, which hosts and serves the content of our website across devices and browsers

Functionality Trackers

Functionality Trackers enable features that enhance your experience, such as signing up for newsletters or other communications. These Trackers support user engagement without collecting information for profiling or behavioral advertising.

An example includes the use of mailing list services to manage subscriptions and communications preferences.

Measurement Trackers

Measurement Trackers help us understand how visitors interact with our website. These tools collect aggregated data related to traffic, behavior, click paths, and technical performance. This information allows us to improve usability and understand community needs.

We use services such as Google Analytics, Bitly, Hotjar, and Lucky Orange to evaluate engagement, optimize user flow, and ensure the site is accessible and effective.

Marketing Trackers

Marketing Trackers support outreach, fundraising, and audience engagement. These tools may be used to personalize communications or track how users respond to invitations, updates, or campaign messages. They help ensure that content is meaningful and appropriately delivered.

We use platforms like Mailchimp, Zoho, SendGrid, and Airtable to manage communications and maintain stakeholder relationships.

Mobile device users may adjust app-level or system-level settings to limit tracking.

Tracker duration may vary depending on the service provider. Some cookies expire at the end of your session, while others may remain on your device for a longer period to support analytics, personalization, or functionality. For specific durations, please refer to the privacy policies linked in the table above.

How to Opt Out of Interest-Based Advertising

Notwithstanding the above, Users may follow the instructions provided by the Network Advertising Initiative (US), the Digital Advertising Alliance (US), or other similar services. Such initiatives allow Users to select their tracking preferences for most of the advertising tools. The Owner thus recommends that Users make use of these resources in addition to the information provided in this document.

The Digital Advertising Alliance offers an application called AppChoices that helps Users to control interest-based advertising on mobile apps.

Consequences of Denying the Use of Trackers

Users are free to decide whether or not to allow the use of Trackers.
