The legal field took one step closer to equal access to justice for all. The American Bar Association (ABA) adopted Resolution 605, calling on states, courts, and other jurisdictions to study and adopt community justice worker programs—innovative, community-based models designed to expand access to affordable, quality civil legal services for individuals who cannot afford an attorney.
“This resolution underscores what we’ve always known - community justice workers and lawyers are allies; they both play essential, complementary roles in closing the justice gap. By working together, we can reach more people, provide better services, and build a justice system that truly serves everyone.” - Nikole Nelson
We are grateful to the Standing Committee on Legal Aid & Indigent Defense for sponsoring this important resolution and so many others including National Leadership Council Chair Jim Sandman for making this possible!
